Why Qualtrics
Why Qualtrics – Joe Morris – Senior Specialist, Technical Account Manager – Provo, UT
What is your 'why'? How does Qualtrics connect with your 'why'?
I always want to be learning and growing. Qualtrics provides amazing opportunities to do both of those things. Working for such a fast moving/growing company means I have new opportunities to work on daily, I have extremely bright colleagues to learn from, and I have new challenges every day.
What attracted you to Qualtrics in the first place?
I was very excited about the relatively small size of the company after my first interview, but also about the fact that things seemed to be moving very quickly. It presented an opportunity to come in and make an immediate impact, have experiences a larger company might not allow for a person as young as myself to have, and see how a successful organization handles the growth we’ve had and expectations we’ve given ourselves. And it turns out I was right about it providing those 3 things which is nice!
What was the turning point where you 'had to have the job'?
When I learned I could finally get a big dog because he can come to work with me. Obi is my best friend! My family had a small dog growing up and I always wanted a bigger dog. I thought I was going to have to wait years to get the dog I wanted, but at Qualtrics you can bring your dog to work so I had no excuse. How can you beat going to work every day with your best friend?
What is your favorite part of your role?
My favorite part about being a TAM, especially for our employee experience clients, is the ability to help make other companies better. I have the resources, knowledge, and ability to educate, make suggestions, and help shape employee experience programs for my clients that can help their company grow and be successful! It is an exciting and rewarding experience.
So you relocated to Provo, right? Tell us about that.
I went to school at Indiana University and my girlfriend (Samantha, she’s now my fiancée) and I had talked about moving to Chicago together after school where we have tons of friends and family. The week after I first talked to her about moving to Utah was not my most fun :) My family didn’t want me to go either (they all live in Chicago), but I had skied here as a kid and so was excited about the idea of living in Utah. I convinced Samantha to come visit with me and she ended up falling in love with it just like me! So, we rented a U-Haul and drove all the way out from Chicago (I’d heard Wyoming is a windy place but you definitely need to feel it to believe it). My fiancée had never been west of Texas and had never skied in her life but we ski every weekend now and love being out West. It has been an adventure!
What surprised you most about working at Qualtrics?
The emphasis on development as an individual and your career. Frequently we have internal posts and resources about improving your resumé or LinkedIn page. Many companies talk about the career/personal development you will get by joining them, but I am not sure many walk the walk like Qualtrics.
