Why Qualtrics – Jeffrey Hao, Software Engineer I, Seattle
What is your 'why'?
I chose computer science and web development because it serves as a good junction between my interests in life in problem solving and creative expression.
How does Qualtrics connect with your ‘why?’
Qualtrics gives me the tools and freedom to approach client-based requests/projects and figure out the best way to create a solution.
What does your day look like?
After grabbing a quick breakfast in the office and attending my team standup where we discuss what we achieved the previous day and what we’ll be working on, I dive into work on different tasks for Brand Experience (BX), from widget and service work to integration work for BX dashboards, broken up by a company-catered lunch around noon. My day will be interspersed with occasional meetings with other teams, to discuss/solve different issues where my work overlaps with them, and the occasional ping pong or pool game with a coworker.
What is your favorite part of your role?
I enjoy being given control over creating widgets for brand experience. I love the aspect of coding where you can create visualizations for specific needs. A widget I worked on recently was correspondence analysis, where I studied and built a service to do the calculations, built the widget and its input parameters, and worked with the UI team to create the perfect look for it. I also was able to create a blog post on correspondence analysis to aid in coworkers’ understanding of the topic.
What are your aspirations in career/life?
I hope to develop my expertise and further my career in computer science more along the graphics and music route. I hope to develop high-skilled work in music-based graphic visualizations or possibly different VR/AR games/applications. I also hope to further my skill in dancing, from freestyle to choreography and intertwine this with my interest in graphics/music.
