Why Qualtrics
Why Qualtrics – Bill Guo – Manager, Research Services – Sydney, Australia
We're in the Information Age. Individuals, corporations and governments are surrounded by information, by data. But data on its own is nothing more than tickmarks on a survey, nothing more than zeros and ones on a server. Data is useless without the people and the tools to turn it into truths that can be leveraged to drive the desired outcome. That's why I do what I do. To be one of these people who see truths in data and to use the amazing tools available at Qualtrics to help me leverage these truths to change the world.
What attracted you to Qualtrics in the first place?
I want to work for a company with momentum and there is no company in the data and analytics space that comes remotely close to Qualtrics when it comes to growth momentum. The trajectory is just amazing. I've been here less than 4 weeks and 145 people have joined after me. By the time you're reading this, that number would definitely be even higher. That momentum brings opportunities for growth, opportunities for everyone including me.
What was the turning point where you 'had to have the job'?
When I spoke with Bill McMurray. His articulation of the XM vision was very compelling. I could really see Qualtrics being the rocketship that he described and I wanted to get onboard.
What does your day look like?
Because I'm new it's like an adult trying to learn how to walk again. It's a little crazy trying to get my head around all the new software, hardware, new acronyms, and new tools, all the while meeting new people from all over the world. Because my function is new, I'm also trying to establish new processes and build new resources. It's challenging at times but also very exciting to be able to shape the Research Experts offerings in the APJ region.
What is your favorite part of your role?
I love the broad exposure I have. I work with sales and operations and span the length of any given project. But most of all I love working directly with clients to add value by helping them leverage the Qualtrics platform to enable better decision making.
Any tips for someone who is considering a role at Qualtrics?
Have a growth mindset. You will be stretched and it may be uncomfortable at times, but that's just you growing and it'll be worth it.
What is your top #LifeHack?
Frontload your work week and don't leave things to the last minute. Personally, there's no sweeter feeling than going to bed having things ticked off my to-do list.

Bill is an alumnus of the University of New South Wales and started his career at Millward Brown. was born in Shanghai but grew up in Darwin. For those unfamiliar with Australian geography, it's a remote, tropical city on the northern tip of the continent, closer to Indonesia than any other major Australian city. I spent a large part of my childhood there, barefoot and getting into all sorts of adventures. |
