Why Qualtrics
Why Qualtrics – Andrew Coffman – Team Lead – Sydney, Australia
Everyone has an innate need to help other people. This is why it feels so good when you do something kind for another person. Or when you watch someone else be kind to others. I want to spend my life helping people. And Qualtrics has allowed me to do that in a multitude of ways. I help researchers by providing services that save them time and make their lives easier, I help them get their research published so they can make tenure and uncover knowledge that is ultimately changing the world we live in. I also help members of my team reach their goals and fulfill their dreams.
What attracted you to Qualtrics in the first place?
I had known about Qualtrics since college and had a few friends who were working there. While everyone had good things to say about the company, it mostly was watching Ryan Smith’s introduction of Experience Management to the world at the 2017 Summit. This company was clearly at the forefront of something big, and I wanted to be a part of it.
What was the moment you knew you 'had to have the job'?
As soon as I walked in the doors to the office. A basketball court for the entryway, people riding around on scooters, eating ice cream, lounging outside in the shade of a tree while working on their laptops, and dogs everywhere. It was like a dream come true.
What does your day look like?
I get to take the ferry into work, so it starts with beautiful views of Sydney Harbour & the Opera House. I start the day by making calls and scheduling times to meet with researchers, then spend the majority of my day discussing research projects and consulting on the most effective ways for their research to be a success.
What is your favorite part of your role?
Most days I feel like my job is to make friends. Whether it's the relationships I'm building with my team & others in the office or my clients that I'm working with and helping. I get to meet cool people all day every day and help them.
Right - so, you moved to Sydney, right? Tell us about that.
I started out in our Utah headquarters and was asked to take on an assignment in Sydney for 2 years. It wasn't easy to pick up our life and move around the world with 3 little kids - but it's absolutely been worth it.
Any tips for someone who is considering a role at Qualtrics?
They truly, genuinely, care about the people. They care about their employees and in turn care about their customers.
What surprised you most about working at Qualtrics?
That it's hard work! It seemed like this job would be a breeze, seeing the party-like environment and the laid-back dress code. I learned quickly that these fun distractions are ways to help ease the stress of a hard day's work. But anything that makes you stretch is something that will make you stronger. It has been one of the most challenging and rewarding jobs I can imagine.
What are your aspirations in career/life?
To experience the world with my family. Working in Sydney has made that possible. The SAP acquisition has opened up huge possibilities around the world that could potentially send us anywhere - and I can't wait to see where we end up!
