Katie, Solution Engineer: Measuring impact for good
What is your “why” and how does Qualtrics connect with it?
My "why" is my family (especially my 7 year old son and my husband of 13 years), my friends, my faith, and my focus on continuous growth in all of my roles (mother, daughter, sister, wife, friend, colleague, mentor, neighbor, etc).
Qualtrics has made it possible for me to commit fully to all of these roles. Providing me not only with the team and resources required for ongoing growth and development as a pre-sales professional, but also with a dedication to a healthy work/life balance that allows me to truly "be present" and active in all areas of my life.
What attracted you to Qualtrics in the first place?
I've worked in the Employee/Candidate Experience space for the majority of my career (14 years), but the concept of "XM" and the ability to correlate and measure the impact that a highly engaged and diverse employee population has on customer satisfaction, loyalty, and revenue is game changing! And vice versa - the impact that a solid customer and brand/product experience can have on employees is amazing.
How has Qualtrics lived up to your expectations?
It continues to exceed my expectations. I have genuine excitement each day showing our customers the breadth of our solutions and more importantly the business value that we can deliver. The opportunities to design a strategic program in Qualtrics are truly endless.
What was the moment where you knew you 'had to have the job' at Qualtrics?
Chatting with Brandon Hodges (my hiring manager) during the interview process as he described a "EX + CX" use case with an airline customer. I could feel the energy and excitement as he described their strategy and I knew at that moment I wanted to be a part of that.
What does your day look like?
Every day is different and while I have the privilege of working cross-functionally with all areas of our business, the best days are the ones spent with customers, bringing to life what Qualtrics can do and seeing the light bulbs go off.
What is your favorite part of your role?
I love meeting with customers and learning about their business in preparation for a technical demo. I find it fascinating how no two businesses are the same and how all of the organizations we work have a purpose and are making the world a better place in their own way.
Any tips for someone who is considering a role at Qualtrics?
If you are considering a role at Qualtrics or actively interviewing, be sure to take a moment and think about your own experiences... as a customer in a physical store, as an active user of a website or app, as an employee or candidate...and really think about the impact those experiences have on you and on the company. We are an experience management company so having a point of view on why closing experiencing gaps is important to you can really help guide your conversations.
What has surprised you most about working at Qualtrics?
As a remote hire, I wasn't sure what team collaboration would feel like. I was (and still am) blown away by the level of support our team provides one another across the globe. We tend to communicate quite a bit on Slack and have created a culture in which there are no dumb questions - everyone is willing to help, brainstorm, and share ideas.
What made you want to get into engineering?
I’ve always loved the concept of bringing complex concepts to life in ways that anyone can easily understand and find value.
What are your aspirations in career/life?
Continuous growth - always be learning!
What is your top #LifeHack?
I am not the most organized person when it comes to note-taking, so I tend to send myself an email after all meetings to make sure I have an easy to find repository of all conversations, meetings, and notes.
What's a favorite moment/memory of your time at Qualtrics so far?
I've recently begun onboarding/training/mentoring a few new members of our team. I really enjoy seeing the excitement in our new hires when they start to really dig into all we can do. I also find myself learning so much from them. Qualtrics hires people with amazing backgrounds and a breadth of knowledge in all industries, so to watch everyone's unique style and perspective never gets old!
