Why Qualtrics
Cassie, Software Engineer, perpetual learner
I’ve always thrived off of the ability to constantly learn and improve myself. My job as a software engineer caters to these passions. It’s a career that requires a constant willingness to learn and encourages creativity in problem solving. At Qualtrics I am surrounded by like-minded people who have the same desire for knowledge and are always looking for ways to improve experiences. We are continually learning as individuals and together as a team. Whether it be a new skill or coding language pertinent to a project we are working on, or learning how to better collaborate with one another, learning is a key part of my experience at Qualtrics. As a software engineer here, I have been encouraged to take on new challenges that have helped me to grow as a person and as an engineer.
What attracted you to Qualtrics in the first place?
After my first interview with Qualtrics, I was completely sold on the job. Throughout the interview process, everyone I met was enthusiastic about their roles and about the company mission as a whole. The interviewers were extremely transparent about their experiences at Qualtrics and willing to answer any questions I had to help make my decision easier. After learning more about the company culture, I decided that Qualtrics was the only option for me.
What does your day look like?
Each day starts by reviewing my work from the previous day and setting goals and intentions for my work that day. After that, my team has a 15 minute sync to review what everyone accomplished the day before and what they hope to accomplish that day. My day-to-day work varies depending on my daily, weekly, and quarterly goals. Some days I am working on product improvements or helping to drive product launches. Other days I am working on project planning, reviewing my teammates work, or giving feedback on new ideas. Each day is pretty different depending on what my goals are at the time.
What is your favorite part of your role?
My favorite part about my role is how collaborative all of my work is. As a software engineer I think it is pretty common to believe that you’ll spend all of your time with your head down coding. While I do spend a lot of time working with code, I also spend a lot of my time collaborating with my teammates on project designs, code reviews, and even fun things like weekly game time.
Tell us your story of moving to Utah.
I’m not originally from Utah and moved here not really knowing anyone or anything about the area. After being confined to my apartment for most of the later half of college due to COVID, I was excited to move somewhere where I had a ton of options for things to do outdoors. Since moving here I’ve had a ton of fun skiing, hiking, and exploring my new home. Like any major life change, moving to a completely new place was a bit intimidating at first, but once I got over the initial nerves I met a ton of great people and have had a lot of really great experiences!
What has surprised you most about working at Qualtrics?
I’ve been surprised by the freedom I’ve been given to explore and execute my own ideas at Qualtrics. As a junior engineer, I didn’t expect to have so much control over my work. It has been really exciting to see my own ideas be put to action, and to see the direct impact that I’ve been able to make!
