Genevieve talks about her three T’s – Talent, Teamwork & TACOs

When I was approached to put pen to paper on the topic of “Why Qualtrics?”, I was really excited to debrief on my journey so far and how I have fit into the Qualtrics puzzle. To sum it up, what drew me to Qualtrics from the beginning, and what has continued to keep me driving over the last few months, are the three T’s - Talent, Teamwork & TACOs (the Qualtrics values).

When I think about where I am in my career, I don't often stop to think about where I was and how far I've come, and that Qualtrics believed in me. I originally started out my career at a tiny design agency back in 2013, where I was client facing and really enjoyed partnering with our customers to come up with their latest packaging designs. This is where I learnt that I wanted to continue supporting businesses and working in sales. I landed in recruitment for 5 years where I learnt how naturally curious I was, and how it led me to ask an unnatural amount of questions, soon realising that customers didn't mind it - they actually LOVED this level of engagement. My success in recruitment taught me resilience, the importance of teamwork, and (as hard as it is) to just be yourself. I transferred offices from Sydney to Singapore to continue my growth in the region, stepping outside of a world of “taa” to the land of “lahhh”.

After a couple of years in Singapore under my belt, I took a leap of faith out of the 'ladder-climbing' world of recruitment into a Singapore based start-up before I finally reached my home at Qualtrics. The business across APJ is a perfect mix between the corporate giant I worked in for so many years, and a start-up - where for me, it feels just right. I am incredibly fortunate to be engrossed in such a wholesome and accepting culture where everyone's opinions matter, no matter where you are placed on an org-chart.

My Qualtrics journey is only just beginning, and I am gripping my seat, excited to see where this rocket takes me, enjoying every minute of the ride.

What attracted you to Qualtrics in the first place?

The TACOs Values! And secondly, I was at a point in my working career, where I really saw the value in the Qualtrics product itself, and if some of the businesses I’d either worked at or engaged with had a tool like ours they would be in a totally different position.

What does your day look like?

My days are pretty busy, (but good busy!) and the team is growing a lot! I now run a team of 10 Sales Development Reps (SDR) across South East Asia, Hong Kong, India and South Korea. I speak to them pretty often throughout each day, working through anything from objection handling, to AE cross functional support, to how they are going to celebrate hitting their target over the weekend! We have a fairly large APJ-wide SDR team, so we collaborate and meet with them weekly. It is like a great big family that has an infectious positive energy.

What is your favourite part of your role?

Watching my team grow, and seeing success from something they originally experienced a roadblock. For example it could be a customer they keep getting a ‘no’ from. But when they finally connect, and that customer is engaged and wants to learn about Qualtrics, that brings a lot of joy.

Any tips for someone who is considering a role at Qualtrics or advice for someone looking to get into a career like yours?

For me, it was always about the company and culture, and Qualtrics is at a very pivotal moment in it's growth that is amazing to be part of. From my first conversation with my then boss, Charles (based in Sydney), I believed he was so passionate about Qualtrics, and in subsequent meetings that aura was consistent with everyone I spoke to. I was a little apprehensive about my background as I didn't come from tech sales, but the TACOs values are closely aligned with my own, which helped me to have the confidence to believe I could do it!

What are your aspirations in career/life?

To never stop learning, and to see progress in the team - which is growth in any shape or form. I love making other people happy in life, and that brings me a lot of fulfilment, so I guess I’d like to continue to find pockets where I can do this and also to ensure my family has security.

How have you become involved in the community at Qualtrics? What has that meant to you?

Lift-at-Q (Let's inspire female talent) and the EX Culture Club! These are two new initiatives I am pumped to sink my teeth into!

What 3 words would you use to describe Qualtrics to someone?

Helpful, Humble and Happy!

How do you feel you’ve been able to apply what you studied at school to your career?

I studied a Bachelor of Business at UTS in Sydney, majoring in Marketing and Management. I work very closely with the marketing team in my role at Qualtrics, so some of my studies have come in handy there (I hope!), but more so the management piece - about organisation change, hierarchy of needs, and ultimately how all functional areas of business need to marry up to drive growth, which to me, comes back to teamwork!
