Liam, Research Services Opportunity Fulfillment, on starting his career
I do what I do because I want to be able to learn as much as possible from the people around me. I believe there is a power in learning, and, when you are surrounded by people from different backgrounds, learning is the greatest thing one can do. Qualtrics helps me achieve that because it allows me to be around highly motivated and hard-working individuals with many different perspectives.
I wanted to work for a company that not only said they care about their employees, but that actually showed it through the setting up of key cultural focuses, benefits, and in-office experience. After talking with several friends at Qualtrics, I learned that they talk the talk, but also walk the walk, so to speak.
What has surprised you most about working at Qualtrics?
I think what surprised me most is the diverse background of the employees. I studied International Relations in school, and I thought I had no chance to work for a business when I myself had no real business experience. Instead, I quickly found out that the majority of my team are not business majors. They are, however, scrappy and hard-working team members who do their best to pull in outside experience into their roles.
What is your top #LifeHack?
Easy. You don't need to cut the seed out of an avocado. Just push it out from the back, and it'll fall right out.
What's a myth about your type of job that you'd like to bust? Or about working at Qualtrics?
I think the biggest myth about working a full-time job is that it needs to be physically draining. That, for a new employee, you need to have a "burn-out" period after a few months of starting an entry-level position. I've been here for several months now, and I feel like my team has my back, and my partner teams have my back. I strongly believe that work doesn't have to be physically draining. There's a saying, "work smarter not harder," and when you can fully apply that to your life, you will succeed in any role thrown your way. At Qualtrics, we work smarter, not harder. We rely on each other and make sure that we carry our weight to the ultimate goal, which is this company's success in closing the experience gap.
