From the Q-mmunity

Luis Lopez, Junior Software Support Engineer,

How have you felt supported at Qualtrics as an underrepresented minority in tech?

My team is very encouraging and expresses gratitude for everything I do. I try to have a good work/life balance. While I did not receive much financial support, my family always encouraged me and are there for me when I need them. I can always reach out to them during the good and the bad times, and they will try their best to help me through it all.

How do you show up as your best self or how do you help others show up as their best self?

I show up as my best self by making sure I do things I enjoy when I am not working to avoid getting burnt out. Plenty of sleep, exercise, and water to make sure I am healthy and ready to take on the day. In my new role, I was not assigned a mentor but everyone on my team will rally and help me out when I need it. They are very willing to lend a hand and set me down the right path.

Hard work and effort do not go unnoticed, but we have to learn to set limits as well. While I asked to be given some meaningful work, my superiors always ask and make sure the workload is not too much. They are happy to give me opportunities to prove myself, but they are mindful to not overburden me as well.

What advice would you give to someone trying to break into tech and someone already in tech?

The effort and sacrifices will be worth it. Don't be too hard on yourself.
