Skip Logic allows you to send respondents to a future point in the survey or straight to the end of the survey based on specific conditions. For instance, if a participant indicates that they don’t agree to your survey’s consent form, you could immediately skip them to the end of the survey.
Qtip: For more advanced logic such as including multiple “and” or “or” statements, consider using Display Logic or Branch Logic
Adding Skip Logic
While editing your survey, use the following steps to add Skip Logic to a question.
To Create Skip Logic:
Select the question to which you would like to add Skip Logic.
Click on the purple gear box to the left and then select Add Skip Logic.
In the first drop-down, select the answer choice to use in your Skip Logic.
In the second drop-down, select how the participant should interact with this choice to trigger the Skip Logic.
In the third drop-down, specify where respondents who are skipped ahead should be sent. You can skip the respondent to future questions within the current block, the end of the current block, or the end of the survey.
Qtip: Because Qualtrics isn’t always sure yet which question block will be displayed next when a participant is answering your question, participants can only be skipped to questions within the same block. If you’d like to skip participants to another block, choose to skip them to End of Block, and then use Branch Logic or Display Logic to get them to the right place from there.
When finished, click Done.
Optionally, repeat these same steps to create additional Skip Logic statements. Each statement’s option menu will appear as a different color.
Additional Skip Logic Options
After creating Skip Logic on a question, you can select the black Skip Logic drop-down menu to the right of the logic for more options.
The following options are available:
Edit Skip Logic: This re-opens your Skip Logic statement, allowing you to make changes.
Advanced Options: This option allows you to set up the Skip Logic to be ignored until a certain Quota is met. When you select this option, a page will appear where you can select Include Quota. Then a drop-down will appear where you can select a quota you have previously created.
Qtip: No need to use this option if you are simply skipping participants to the end of the survey once the Quota is full. For this, in the Quota setup screen simply use the default action of End Current Survey.
Go To Skip Destination: If you have set your Skip Logic to skip the respondent to a specific question, selecting this option while editing the survey will move your view so that you can see that question.
Remove Skip Logic: This will delete the Skip Logic.
